Overview
Launched in 2020, Magic of Lights Vail is a family-friendly, winter lighting walkthrough experience that offers locals and destination guests alike a memorable, outdoor activity to complement their Vail experience. Magic of Lights Vail is one of the Vail Valley Foundation’s newest projects, and is a partnership between Vail Valley Foundation Events and Fun Guys Events.

Magic of Lights Vail was originally conceived in 2020 when the community was seeking uplifting activities that could take place in an outdoor, socially-distanced environment.
The response was overwhelmingly positive, and the project continued in 2021 with a brighter, more interactive, experience.
Set in the Ford Park Lower Bench and Betty Ford Alpine Gardens area (adjacent to the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater), the approximately half-mile walking loop features an array of majestic lighting displays made from half a million individual low-impact LED lights, creating a winter wonderland and underlining the natural beauty of the surrounding area.
In addition to the unique lighting experience, new features this year included fire pits for warming up and roasting s’mores, cozy domes to hang out in and enjoy a snack or beverage from concessions, The Playground (a fun, interactive kids’ area) and special appearances including from Santa himself!
Also new this year, holiday parties and special event offerings helped create a whole new way to experience Magic of Lights Vail.
This year’s expanded footprint of the event made for a more well-rounded experience, including taking advantage of the intimate space at the Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater for private gatherings, more space for attendees to sit and enjoy concessions, an area for live music and more. A new-and-improved musical playlist to accompany the walk also made for a more lively experience.
Taking place from 5 to 8 p.m. nightly Nov. 19, 2021, to Jan. 2, 2022, Magic of Lights Vail welcomed thousands of attendees this year.
The project is presented by Vail Valley Foundation Events in partnership with FunGuys Events, and is made possible in part through generous support from the Town of Vail.
